This kit supplies twelve matched pairs covering 4kg to 26kg in 2kg increments — 360kg in total, and a complete working range for most commercial floors.
Why have a Hex Dumbbell Set
The flat sides stop a dumbbell rolling away the moment it is set down. On a busy floor that is a practical safety point as much as a tidiness one.
The rubber coating does two further jobs. It prevents damage to flooring and bench upholstery, and it reduces noise considerably compared with bare iron or chrome — which matters where a training floor sits above or beside other areas.
Construction and safety
The shaft is fixed through a security plate welded to the cast iron hexagonal heads. That construction limits the possibility of the plates detaching even in cases of improper use, which is the failure that matters most on a commercial floor.
Every dumbbell is marked with its weight in kilograms. Tolerance is +/-3%.
Why the handle does not rotate
The chrome handle has a deep knurl and is fixed rather than rotating. The grip is comfortable, but the fixed design is the deliberate part.
On a rotating handle, the plates turn during the movement and the inertia of that rotation takes some of the work away from the lifter. A fixed handle keeps the work complete, which is what makes these effective for the upper-body strength exercises they are most used for.
Storage
The set can be stored and organised on the 8880 Dumbbell Rack, which holds up to 12 pairs — exactly the capacity of this kit.
